We are pleased to announce that we have appointed a new missioner. Sue Allison joined Darlington Town Mission in her new role on February 1.Mrs Allison is already very familiar with Darlington Town Mission as she is the daughter of a former Missioner. Derrick Hewitson served for more than 30 years as Missioner and then as a volunteer. We are all thrilled that Sue is going to follow in Derrick’s footsteps and look forward to have Sue as our charities’ Missioner. Many may remember Derrick with fondness for his piano playing for Darlington Memorial Hospital chapel at Sunday services."Sue's extensive career as a psychiatric nurse with elderly people in the community within the National Health Service will be most useful."

Our charity was formed in 1838 and aims to help those living in social isolation and loneliness. The Mission focusses its care on the over 80s and provides a service to approximately 80 people. "Our services include regular visits to people in their own homes or care homes providing companionship, providing support and comfort, and other assistance in more practical ways."In addition we arrange a program of group outings and events, including a fortnightly lunch club."But in order to extend the services we offer, we are in need of more volunteer drivers and fund raisers to help out."
