Newsletter - May 2010

As many of you may already know Anne has announced her intention to retire by the end of July. The Chairman and Trustees are tremendously thankful to her for all she has done during her time as Missioner.

We are already in the process of appointing someone to take over from Anne and hope that we choose someone who will keep you all as busy and motivated as Anne has over the past three years.

A few words from Anne.

Dear Friends,

I know that some of you have not been well lately, either through illness or due to falls.  I just want you to know that you are all in our thoughts and hope that you can find the strength and will power to keep your spirits up.

During March and April we have enjoyed 5 different outings and events for those who wanted to join us.  We have also had the monthly church Service for the elderly and also the fortnightly Friends Forum.

During May and June we have old favourites to look forward to – The Bondgate Ride and Tea, and the Sunshine Party at Polam School – this will be the 66th year that the school has invited us to join them!

In July we are going to have a party, with plenty of singing, chatting and laughter!!

I had hoped that I might be able to organise an outing so that you would have the chance to see the Tall Ships in Hartlepool Harbour.  After a lot of thought and many phone calls to the event organisers, I can’t see a way for so many of us to be able to do this; giving thought to how far people can walk, stand, etc., and also how we would be able to keep the cars together. SO instead we will go to Marske for lunch the following week – Tuesday 17th August.  The date has been changed to avoid congestion in the area due to the expected 1 million visitors to see the ships.

We have a number of new Friends who have joined us.  I sincerely hope that you enjoy all that Darlington Town Mission has to offer you.

Finally, you will have read in this newsletter, that I am going to retire at the end of July.

I hope to personally introduce you to the new Missioner and I know that you will still enjoy everything the Town Mission has previously offered you.

I am not leaving dtm – just retiring as Missioner and after an appropriate length of time I will be back as a volunteer, visiting you and driving on outings, just like our other volunteers.

Finally, as this is my last newsletter, I would like to sincerely thank you all for your wonderful Friednship, and also our volunteers who have helped me and also encouraged and supported me in my work.

Love and best wishes.

Annual Service of Thanksgiving.
Monday 19th April.

Over 60 people, including the Mayor and Mayoress, enjoyed our annual service of Thanksgiving.  The Mayor has kindly offered a donation from his charitable fund to help with our work.

On May 6th the Brownies and Guides in Darlington are holding a disco at the Forum in Borough Road.  All proceeds are coming towards the work of the Mission.  We are delighted that young people are helping us.
